Bin mal wieder für ein paar Tage weg. Diesmal geht's nach Spanien, an die Costa Brava. Hier ist ein Foto von unserem Hotel.

AMC Tausch "Blätter"

Bei Art4Card werden regelmäßig AMCs getauscht. Hab mal wieder mitgemacht. Das Thema diesmal war "Blätter". Da konnte ich gleich mal ein paar Techniken aus dem Seminar verwenden.

At Art4Card AMCs are swapped regularly. This month I decided to participate as I was able to try out some of the techniques from the recent workshop. This time the subject has been "Leaves".

Rust Dyeing

Jette Clover hatte so schöne mit Rost gefärbte Stoffe in ihren Quilts verwendet, sodass ich das unbedingt auch mal wieder versuchen musste. Bin ganz zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis :)

Jette Clover had lovely rust-dyed fabric used in her quilts, so I had to give that technique another try. I am quite pleased with the result :)

Gifts from Norway

Today I found wonderful gifts from Nancy from Norway in the mail. Look what a beautiful purse she has made! Perfectly sewn - no open seams! And a nice little pendant at the zipper.

Inside the purse I found two thimbles for my collection, one from Denmark and the other one from Grimstad, Nancy's hometown in Norway.

Thank you Nancy! You made my day!!!

Heute waren wunderbare Geschenke von Nancy aus Norwegen im Briefkasten. Schaut mal, was für ein schönes Schmink-/Näh-Täschchen sie mir gemacht hat! Perfekt genäht bis ins Detail, mit verstürzten Nähten und einem süßen Anhänger am Reißverschluss.
Innendrin waren dann noch zwei Porzellan-Fingerhüte für meine Sammlung, einer aus Dänemark und der andere aus Grimstad, Nancys Heimatstadt.
Danke Nancy! Du hast mir eine Riesenfreude gemacht!!!

Vier spannende Tage mit Jette Clover - Four exciting days with Jette Clover

Vom 30. April bis zum 2. Mai fand in diesem Jahr der "Quiltfrühling am Bodensee" statt. Thema des Workshops war dieses Mal "Text and Textile", gehalten von der renommierten Textilkünstlerin Jette Clover aus Antwerpen.

This year the second "Quilting Spring at Lake Constance" took place from April, 30 to May, 2. This time the topic of the workshop has been "Text and Textile". It was held by renowned fiber artist Jette Clover from Antwerp.

Zwölf textilbegeisterte Frauen aus Deutschland, der Schweiz und Österreich trafen sich auf Schloss Hersberg, einer von Pallotiner-Patern geführten Einrichtung, umgeben von Weinbergen und mit atemberaubendem Blick auf Bodensee und Alpen. Entsprechend "klösterlich" war dann auch die Verpflegung, aber wir waren ja nicht wegen des Essens gekommen ;-)

Twelve fiber-avid women from Germany, Switzerland and Austria met at Hersberg Castle, an institution managed by Pallotine friars, surrounded by vineyards and with a panoramic view of Lake Constance and the Alps. Meals had been accordingly "cloistral", but we hadn't come for the food anyway ;-)

Zunächst gab Jette uns einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Stationen ihres Lebens und einen Einblick in ihre Arbeiten und Arbeitsweise. (Mein Leben kommt mir dagegen vergleichsweise langweilig vor! (Jette, wenn du das liest - ich komm gar nicht darüber hinweg, dass du Florida nach so kurzer Zeit wieder verlassen hast, einen Ort, von dem ich immer geträumt habe, dort zu leben!!!)

First of all Jette gave us an outline of the various stages of her life and an insight into her artwork and her methods to achieve it. (My life seems to be rather boring compared to hers! Jette, if you read this - I still can't get over the fact that you left Florida after such a short time, a place where I always dreamt to live!!!)

Dann zeigte sie uns die verschiedensten Mal- und Drucktechniken, um aus einem Stück weißen Stoff eine ganz individuelle Grundlage für einen persönlichen Quilt zu zaubern.
Then she taught us various painting and printing techniques to turn a blank piece of fabric into an individual backcloth for a personal quilt.

Wir lernten Abdrucke von beliebigen Fundstücken zu machen,Monoprinting, Gelatine- und Siebdruck, experimentierten mit Mehl-Reservierung und erfuhren etwas über die Thermofax-Methode.
Alle hatten einen Riesenspaß beim freien Arbeiten mit Farben und Stoff. Zum Schluss hatte jeder etwa 3 bis 5 Meter Stoff bearbeitet und Unmengen Farbe
verbraucht

We learned to make prints from various found objects, monoprinting, gelatine and screen printing, we experimented with flour resist and heard about the thermofax method to create screens.
It's been a lot of fun to experiment with colors and fabric. In the end everyone had processed about 3 to 5 meters of fabric and quite a lot of paint.

Dann endlich bekamen wir die Aufgabe, daraus zwei kleinformatige Quilts anzufertigen. Die Quilts sollten eindeutig ein Paar bilden, z.B. ein gegensätzliches Paar oder eine Serie.
Die Ergebnisse hätten unterschiedlicher nicht sein können!

Finally Jette gave us the assignment to create two small quilts that were supposed to form a pair, e.g. a contrast or a series. The results couldn't have been more different! This is my pair of little quilts:

Alles in allem hatten wir alle eine großartige Zeit, und die meisten Teilnehmer werde ich wohl beim Quiltfrühling 2009 wiedertreffen :))

All told we had a blast and I guess I'll meet most of the participants again at Quilting Spring 2009 :))
