Im Waipoua Forest nordlich von Auckland steht der älteste Kauri-Baum Neuseelands. Die Maori nennen ihn “Te Matua Ngahere” - Vater des Waldes, denn er ist 3000 Jahre alt, hat einen Umfang von über 16m und ist annähernd 30m hoch.

The oldest Kauri tree in New Zealand is located in the Waipoua Forest north of Auckland. The Maori call him "Te Matua Ngahere" - father of the forest, because he is 3000 years old, has a girth of over 16m and is approximately 30m high.

  Am Hotwater Beach kommen die Menschen nicht mit Handtüchern an den Strand, sondern mit Schaufeln und Spaten,um sich ihre eigene Badewanne zu graben, die sich dann mit heißem Quellwasser füllt.

On Hotwater Beach, people do not come to the beach with towels, but with shovels and spades, to dig their own spa that fills with hot water from underground springs.

 Hundertwasser-KLo in Kawakawa. Hier hat Friedensreich Hundertwasser von 1975 bis zu seinem Tod 2000 gelebt und 1999 die öffentlichen Toiletten gestaltet.

Cape Reinga liegt an der Nordspitze Neuseelands und ist für die Maori der Ort, von wo die Seelen ihrer Verstorbenen die letzte Reise antreten. Hier kann man die beiden Ozeane, den Pazifik und die Tasmanische See, aufeinandertreffen sehen.

Cape Reinga is the ultimate North of New Zealand. For the Maori it is the final departure point for the spirits of their deceased. Here you can see the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea collide.

Im roten Herzen Australiens

Die 1220 km lange Fahrt auf dem Stuart Highway von Port Augusta ins rote Zentrum nach Alice Springs führt uns zunächst nach Coober Pedy, der Opal-Hauptstadt der Welt, wo die Menschen in unterirdischen Behausungen wohnen, weil es an der Oberfläche vor Hitze nicht auszuhalten ist. Die Stadt ist voller überdimensionaler Maulwurfshügel, die beim Opal-Abbau entstehen.

Auf den Opalfeldern habe ich zwar keinen Opal gefunden, aber dafür in einem der Shops

The 1220 km drive on the Stuart Highway from Port Augusta into the red center to Alice Springs takes us to Coober Pedy, the world's opal capital, where people live in subterranean dwellings because of the great heat. The city is full of over-dimensional molehills, which arise while opal mining.
